Xan Padrón

Famously known for his Time-Lapse project, Xan Padrón has traveled all around the world photographing people in a way not seen before. Padrón began Time-Lapse, a collection of portraits of various cities through the people who inhabit them, in 2011. Padrón has captured pedestrians in cities such as Los Angeles, New York City, Brisbane, Santa Domingo, Barcelona, and more. Fleeting moments of people passing by as they go along their days transform into a bigger picture of anthropological significance.

Xan Padrón comes from the coastal community of Galicia, Spain. Padrón was exposed to journalism and photography at a young age. His father, Luís Padrón, was a journalist and Xan received his first camera from photojournalist Enrique Reza. Drawing inspiration from these mentors, Padrón became interested in everyday people and their stories as his subjects. Padrón has a passion for music, as well as photography. For more than a decade he toured with his bass and camera, documenting tour life and musicians around him.

Time Lapse has been exhibited at the United Nations headquarters in New York, The Pfizer Building in New York, and in art fairs such as Photo LA, Art on Paper NYC, and The Other Art Fair, presented by Saatchi Art in London, New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Chicago. His work has been published on the cover of the eleventh edition of the anthology Race, Class and Gender in the United States (MacMillan, 2020) and in the sociology volume Personal Networks (Cambridge University Press, 2021). In addition to Saatchi Art, Xan Padrón works with the galleries Susan Spiritus Gallery, Merritt Gallery, Jules Place, The CAMP Gallery, Shayne Gallery, Trove Art Gallery, and the Hadani Gallery.
